Manifesting with the New Moon: the Practice of Dreaming in the Dark

The New Moon, or Dark Moon, is (by her very name) a time of darkness.  During this window of her cycle she invites us to dream, to create, one pinprick of light at a time.  With the New Moon in Sagittarius being associated with the Element of fire we can consider that like an ember we nurture our New Moon Dream.  We tend to it.  When we see the flame grow and begin to take hold we know we are being guided down the right path.  If it falters we either add more fuel or more air, WE adjust OUR course to give our dream whatever it needs to grow into its culmination as a crackling fire.

And so it is with New Moon Manifesting.  The time of the New Moon is full of possibility.  When we practice setting New Moon Intentions we are planting seeds to be harvested in 6 months time when the Full Moon passes through the same sign.  (This month the New Moon is in the Sun Sign of Sagittarius and in May we will reap what we sow now with the Full Moon in Sagittarius).  We plant the seeds now for what we want to see Manifested in our lives then.

This is an extra auspicious New Moon as it falls on the Angel Number 12:12 a day which is considered to be a Portal that connects us deeply with what we want.  You can read more about it here, as well as what the significance might be for your Sun or Rising Sign. The New Moon in Sagittarius is also kicking of the last Moon cycle of 2023 and carrying us through to the first Moon cycle of 2024 on January 11th.

Sagittarius is a sign that reminds us things can always get better, sometimes all it takes is a new perspective and everything shifts into focus.  When we draw the New Moon in Sagitarius Card from Yasmin Boland’s Moonology Oracle Card Deck (affiliate link) we are reminded that Luck is on our side. There is an element that encourages us to explore big and bold ideas, questions of the Divine and Great Cosmos, even just examining our own ideas and philosophies.  The mutable sign of Sagittarius reminds us that sometimes we need to move whether that be changing our mind or world view, or even physically traveling or moving.  We can be sure that what ever comes from it will be a gift.

Sagittarius is a sign of joy and gratitude.  It reminds us to be optimistic and watch for the light in the darkness of winter, the chance to laugh, and find humor and joy in the world around us.  We can remain optimistic good things are yet to come.  One of the best ways to attract what you want in your live is to be grateful for what you already have.  The New Moon in Sagittarius is the perfect time to establish or renew a gratitude practice, or even to just take a moment to look around and jot down (on paper or in your heart) everything you are grateful for.  That in itself is an exercise in hope and optimism.

Are you wondering how you can connect more with the Moon and build a New Moon Manifesting practice into your life?  Check out my top 5 suggestions below.

Five New Moon Ritual ideas:

  1. Light a candle.  With a Fire Sign like Sagittarius lighting a candle instantly connects us to the energy of this moon.  We bring light into the darkness, just as we bring the ember of our hopes and dreams into the world.
  2. Meditate.  When we aren’t sure what we want to manifest or bring into our lives Meditation is the perfect opportunity to connect to our higher self  and the Divine.  It can be as simple as this: after you light your candle take a few grounding breaths as you gaze into it’s light, put a hand on your heart, with your eyes closed or open with gaze down and soft say aloud or in your head “I am willing to remember”.  Stay in this sacred space with your sacred breath for as long as you need to see what comes up.
  3. Pull a card.  You can pull a card from any Tarot or Oracle Deck. For Moon Work I like to use the deck I mentioned above.  Before writing this post today I drew two card.  Divinely one of them was the New Moon In Sagittarius which we explored above (we will see signs of affirmation like this all the time if we simply look up).  The Second Card I drew for us collectively was the Waning Moon which asks us “What do you need to release?”, a powerful reminder that sometimes we need to let go of the old in order to welcome in the new.  You can use the messages in the cards you pull (or use these two) to inform your intention setting.
  4. Discern your intentions. Before you put your Intentions, Hopes, and Dreams out into the Universe, take the time to thoughtfully articulate them.  We want to be sure we are approaching with positivity.  With Sagittarius in particular, but also with all New Moon Manifesting,  we want to approach it with an optimistic energy that will attract.  We can tap into that energy by expecting that what we wish for will come to pass
  5. Visualize and write/draw your Intentions. Once we have our intentions set we want to visualize them as already having happened.  We can solidify this energy by writing them down or even drawing them.  When we do this we see in black and white or even technicolor on the page our Dreams already having had come to pass.  This has more POWER than you can imagine, because through this exercise they have in fact already Manifested, there is simply the waiting and the working in the cycle ahead. (more on this in the days and months ahead)

Where do you connect to New Moon Manifesting or the New Moon in Sagitarius?  What Dreams will you be nurturing to life over the next 6 months?  What have you already Manifested simply by reading these words?

With gratitude and love always,
